During a public meeting held yesterday by Engineer Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, in the Amriya 1 district, as part of a series of public meetings held to enhance direct communication with members of Parliament and citizens, listen to their demands and complaints, and work to find urgent and effective solutions, the Governor listened to the complaints and demands of the attending members of Parliament regarding the drinking water sector in the areas of Borg El Arab, Agami, Amriya 1, and Amriya 2.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Amira Yassin Heikal, Deputy Governor; Dr. Mahmoud Issa, Assistant Secretary-General of the Governorate; Members of Parliament Saleh Abdel Moneim Deifallah, Abdullah Saadawi Deifallah, and Ahmed Khalil Khairallah; Engineer El-Sayed Rayan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company; the heads of the Amriya First and Second districts; directors of service departments; and a number of executive leaders.
During the meeting, members of Parliament reviewed citizens' complaints regarding drinking water services in several areas, including Bahig, Abu Youssef, Borg El Arab, Dekheila, Agami, and Nagaa Habara. The meeting addressed the current status of the projects and proposed technical solutions for each area, taking into account its specific characteristics and needs, with the aim of improving service levels and responding to citizens' demands.
For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company reviewed the measures taken by the company to improve and stabilize service, including covering the Al-Baitash and Al-Hanoville areas with 12-inch diameter water transmission lines. He added that the company is also exploring the possibility of constructing a water pumping station to serve these areas.
The company also reviewed the work completed in the Bahig area, including the construction of two water intakes, which has contributed to addressing the problem and stabilizing service. The company continues its efforts to address the water shortage in Nag'a Habara, emphasizing that the construction of a new water treatment plant represents the sustainable and final solution for serving the area, given its terrain and high elevation.
Engineer Ayman Attia, Governor of Alexandria, affirmed his full readiness to take all necessary legal measures and provide all necessary facilities to resolve drinking water outages in some areas of the western sector. He noted that all executive bodies in the governorate prioritize citizens' complaints and demands and are continuously working to improve the level of services provided to them. The governor explained that the executive bodies will spare no effort to improve the level of service provided to the residents of Alexandria and to address their complaints and demands, ensuring a more stable drinking water supply and meeting citizens' needs.
For his part, Engineer El-Sayed Rayan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company, indicated that addressing drinking water problems is not limited to immediate solutions, but extends to implementing integrated and sustainable projects that guarantee long-term service stability. He said, "We have directed the relevant sectors to develop a clear plan to address all the demands raised during the meeting. This plan includes identifying appropriate technical solutions for each area, the timeframe required for implementation, and continuous monitoring until the work is completed and the targeted results are achieved."
At the conclusion of the meeting, the governor emphasized the continued coordination and cooperation between the Alexandria Governorate, the Drinking Water Company, executive bodies, and members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. This cooperation aims to expedite responses to citizens' complaints and transform demands into practical solutions and measurable, follow-up programs. He affirmed the ongoing commitment to resolving the issues raised and improving the level of services provided to the residents of Alexandria.
